Stephen Metcalfe MP welcomes Basildon Academy Students to Westminster

On Tuesday 22nd January, Stephen Metcalfe, local MP for South Basildon and East Thurrock, welcomed students from the Basildon Academies to the Houses of Parliament.

27 gifted and talented pupils from years 10 and 11 were treated to a tour of both Houses, a talk on how legislation is made from the Parliamentary Education Service and a Q & A with Mr Metcalfe.

In the midst of challenging times for the school, Mr Metcalfe commented on the importance of recognising the achievements of pupils: “The Basildon Academies have been in the headlines a lot lately for the wrong reasons. The visit from the students is a perfect opportunity to remind people that there are many gifted students at the school who deserve positive recognition for their hard work and achievements.”

James Turner, a representative from the Academies, has thanked Mr Metcalfe for the opportunity and for his open and honest Q & A.

Me Metcalfe added: “It really was a pleasure to see the students and I hope that they enjoyed the visit as much as I did.”
