Stephen Metcalfe MP encourages constituents to Build a Bridge for Holocaust Memorial Day

Stephen Metcalfe MP signing the Holocaust Book of Remembrance
on a previous occasion - he will be signing this year book later this month.

Stephen Metcalfe, local MP for South Basildon and East Thurrock, is encouraging constituents to ‘Build a Bridge’ for Holocaust Memorial Day on the 27th January.

The Memorial Day aims to provide an opportunity for people to pause and remember the millions of people who have been murdered or whose lives have been devastated by the Holocaust and subsequent genocides.

The theme for this year is ‘Communities together:  Build a Bridge’, which aims to inspire people to learn from the past, to celebrate difference and to create more cohesive communities at every level.

Mr Metcalfe commented: “It is so important that we remember the millions of people who have lost their lives, and those whose lives are changed forever as a result of genocide. We must learn from past mistakes and the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust provide us with a fantastic opportunity challenge hatred and persecution in the UK.”

“I would encourage all my constituents to log on to http://buildabridge.hmd.org.uk/ to make a commitment to start building bridges in the community today.”

There will be a variety of events taking place in Basildon to mark the Memorial Day, including a remembrance service and exhibition which are open to all. For more information please visit:  http://hmd.org.uk/
