Stephen Metcalfe MP talks crime with local Superintendent

Last week Stephen Metcalfe MP met with Chief Superintendent Luke Collison from Essex Police to discuss crime in the local area of South Basildon and East Thurrock.

As well as addressing local policing issues, Mr Metcalfe and Mr Collison discussed a number of innovative ideas that will help in the fight against crime and which will improve policing in the near future.

Mr Metcalfe commented: “The safety and security of my constituents is at the top of the agenda so it is vital that I stay in close contact with the local police. I was extremely encouraged by the meeting and I know that the local police are working heard to cut crime in South Basildon and East Thurrock. This process is helped by the growing number of officers now on the frontline.”

The local MP also urged constituents to utilise www.police.uk to find out about crime within their local vicinity. New crime maps on the website enable people to check on the safety of their estate, village, or route to work.

Users can make their own personalised crime maps, plotting the precise area for which they want information on crime, anti-social behaviour and outcomes, rather than relying on a standard one mile radius from a given postcode.

Stephen added: “I will continue to work closely with Essex Police to ensure that everything possible is being done to cut crime in the local area and I have every confidence that we will see falling crime statistics in the near future.”
