Stephen Metcalfe MP backs ‘Farm to Fork’ project in Pitsea

Local MP Stephen Metcalfe has attended the ‘Farm to Fork’ initiative as part of Tesco’s ‘Eat Happy Project’ in the local Pitsea Tesco Store to help engage children on the issues of food and dietary health.

The nationwide project run by Tesco looks to engage schools, farms and factories so that children can discover for themselves where their food comes from as well as learning basic cooking skills.

Stephen Metcalfe commented: “It was great fun helping the children learn about and prepare some great food for themselves.”

“It is so important that initiatives such as this are a success. The health and wellbeing of our children is of paramount importance. The earlier we start with getting our young people interested in their food and where it comes from, the more likely they are to have better relationships with food in adulthood.”

Since the project has started in Basildon, 1800 children have attended and benefitted from the scheme – and over 900,000 children nationwide have been on one of the ‘Farm to Fork Trails’.
