Stephen Metcalfe, local MP
for South Basildon and East Thurrock, has paid tribute to the perseverance of
the Stanford and Corringham carnival volunteers who put on a great show despite
the torrential rain and appalling weather.
The annual carnival
suffered from some of the worst weather of the summer with many attractions and
floats having to be cancelled.
Despite the downpour which
lasted for most of the day, some performers stoically continued, putting on the
best show possible for the brave onlookers who had ventured out.
Mr Metcalfe commented: “It
was such a shame that the weather put a dampener on what is usually such a
fantastic and well attended local event. I would like thank all those who
worked so hard to organise the carnival and I would also like to pay tribute to
all of the performers and volunteers who braved the weather to ensure that the
show went on!”
“They really made the best
of a difficult situation and I am glad that at least some of the performers got
to take part. I look forward to next year’s event and hope that it will take
place under slightly better conditions!”
