On Friday 8th
February, Stephen Metcalfe, local MP for South Basildon and East Thurrock,
joined Essex Police and Crime Commissioner, Nick Aslton, for a public meeting
on policing and crime in Essex.
In the first
of a series of meetings being held throughout the County, Mr Alston met with a
number of local residents as well as local MP’s Stephen Metcalfe and John Baron
and Basildon’s District Commander Glen Pavelin as well as many other senior
figures from the Police and the local community.
Mr Metcalfe
commented: “This was a fantastic opportunity to get some answers to some of the
tough questions about local crime and policing. PCC’s are a vital means through
which we can now hold the police to account and I look forward to seeing how
Nick Alston’s plans will help to cut crime in the future.”
Key areas of
discussion included household burglary and vehicle crime, drug dealing, the
Felmores Approved Premises and the Police and Crime Plan for Essex. There was
also an open floor session where people were able to raise their own concerns.
Stephen Metcalfe added: “Mr
Alston aims to hold a public meeting in every district twice a year. These are
important events for anyone who cares about local policing and I would
encourage my constituents to attend future meetings.”
“It is vital that crime
continues to fall in Essex and I will work closely with Mr Alston to ensure
that this is the case in South Basildon and East Thurrock.”
